Your comments on the n900 bugs are right on. For n900 owners, the only options for getting over the limitations in the phone are the Meego and Android ports. Neither are officially supported by Nokia, so the n900 becomes a community supported device in effect. For me, the n900 has become a frustrating device and I am currently looking for a replacement, most likely an Android-based phone. I may give Android on the n900 a try, but the resistive touch screen is something I can live without.

Hi Markku,

I think Ovi Maps is potentially good on the N900, but I found the current version to be to frustrating to use. Why the frustration? Responsiveness was the big problem, leaving me at times to think the Maps app had locked up, only to resume functioning after some variable time period. I did try planning some routes, and tested the apps ability to track my position from a moving train, but found it could not compare with the same tasks performed using Google Maps on the N85. Perhaps the next release can improve performance.

Hi

Do you have any comments about maps application on N900? How it works and what you feel user point of view?

Yes, I will give the IE self-voicing a try. Being somewhat familiar with self-voicing interfaces, I was most interested in seeing how well the DAISY support across platforms worked, first.

Regarding self-voicing for FireFox, a cross-browser/cross-platform solution would be the ideal, especially if we can avoid specialized code for each. Unfortunately, I think we're not quite there yet. Charles Chen's FireVox approach is a good start, though not sure how well that would translate to Silverlight.

Another quick note.

It's worth trying it in IE with the self voicing feature enabled (we use the Microsoft Speach API at present).

We're working on some ideas to support self voicing at least to some degree from within Firefox too.

Markku - thanks for taking a look at ButtercupReader. I led the development effort and we had a lot of fun bringing it to life, and look forward to taking it further. We are about to add a blog to www.buttercupreader.net so you can keep track of progress and learn more about the inner workings of ButtercupReader. In the meantime, I will be posting on my own site andrewtokeley.net - all feedback is welcome.
