Yes, I will give the IE self-voicing a try. Being somewhat familiar with self-voicing interfaces, I was most interested in seeing how well the DAISY support across platforms worked, first.

Regarding self-voicing for FireFox, a cross-browser/cross-platform solution would be the ideal, especially if we can avoid specialized code for each. Unfortunately, I think we're not quite there yet. Charles Chen's FireVox approach is a good start, though not sure how well that would translate to Silverlight.

Another quick note.

It's worth trying it in IE with the self voicing feature enabled (we use the Microsoft Speach API at present).

We're working on some ideas to support self voicing at least to some degree from within Firefox too.

Markku - thanks for taking a look at ButtercupReader. I led the development effort and we had a lot of fun bringing it to life, and look forward to taking it further. We are about to add a blog to www.buttercupreader.net so you can keep track of progress and learn more about the inner workings of ButtercupReader. In the meantime, I will be posting on my own site andrewtokeley.net - all feedback is welcome.
